In an exclusive interview, Linus Aleke in Abuja reported on an important announcement made by the Nigeria Police Force regarding their latest efforts to enhance operational capabilities. The police revealed that they have procured new operational assets, including Hilux vehicles, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), personal protective equipment, and anti-riot gear.
When asked about the significance of these acquisitions, Force Spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi emphasized that these assets are crucial for equipping officers to effectively confront security challenges and improve their service to the public. He mentioned that these new assets are currently awaiting commissioning by President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Tinubu.
Adejobi also highlighted broader initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of police personnel. According to him, Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is preparing to commission several ultra-modern police barracks and command headquarters across various states, including Adamawa, Sokoto, Jigawa, Nassarawa, and Katsina.
“In addition to this,” he continued, “we have plans to commission other structures, such as police stations and area command headquarters, as part of our ongoing efforts to create a supportive working environment that enhances the overall well-being of our officers.”
The spokesperson reiterated that these initiatives align with the Inspector General’s goal of strengthening police infrastructure. He pointed out significant projects already underway, such as the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre and the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, alongside new divisional and state command headquarters.
Overall, Adejobi reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to improving personnel welfare and ensuring officers have the resources necessary for effective duty performance. Through these initiatives, he stated, the IGP aims to build a police force that is more responsive, accountable, and operationally effective.
