Man bailed after damage to October 7 memorial

A man has recently been taken into custody on suspicion of vandalizing a memorial that honors the victims of the October 7 Hamas attack in Israel. The arrest occurred following an incident at the Jewish memorial located in Palmeira Square, Hove, East Sussex. The 58-year-old suspect was apprehended on Monday and faces charges for racially aggravated criminal damage, though he has since been released on bail as the investigation continues.

The vandalism gained widespread attention after video footage surfaced on social media, showing the suspect damaging the memorial. Sussex Police have classified this act as a hate crime, highlighting the gravity they attribute to the incident.

Detective Superintendent Ben Newman spoke to the community’s concerns, saying, “We understand that this incident has caused great upset within many communities, and we would like to reassure the public that our investigation team is working hard to gather all the facts and bring this matter to a positive conclusion.”
