Xi Jinping meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin_1

On the afternoon of October 22, local time, President Xi Jinping met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Kazan, highlighting the significant milestone of 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia.

During the meeting, Xi emphasized that over the past 75 years, the two countries have navigated various challenges and developed a model of coexistence that ensures “no alliances, no confrontation, and no targeting of third parties.” He stated that both nations are committed to a spirit of enduring friendship, comprehensive strategic collaboration, and mutual benefit, which has deepened their cooperation in various sectors. This partnership fuels the development and modernization efforts of both countries, enhances the well-being of their peoples, and contributes significantly to international fairness and justice. Despite a tumultuous global landscape, characterized by unprecedented changes and complexities, Xi assured that the longstanding friendship between China and Russia remains steadfast, as does their commitment to global responsibilities. He noted the active advancement of cooperation in trade and other fields, and the stable operation of large-scale joint projects. Both countries aim to push forward the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union for high-quality economic development.

Xi also pointed out that next year will mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. As permanent members of the UN Security Council and major global powers, he stressed the importance of deepening their strategic cooperation and enhancing coordination within multilateral frameworks such as the UN and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He underscored the need to promote a correct understanding of World War II history, uphold an international system centered around the UN, and jointly maintain global strategic stability and international fairness.

Putin, reflecting on their recent celebration of 75 years of diplomatic ties, remarked on the high-level development of Sino-Russian relations, which have become a model for a new type of major country relationship based on equality, mutual respect, and reciprocal benefits. He expressed his enthusiasm for furthering collaboration during the events of the Year of Russia-China Cultural Cooperation and reinforced the commitment to high-level exchanges and strategic dialogue in international affairs. He recognized the sacrifices made by both countries contributed to the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and expressed a desire to commemorate this pivotal anniversary together.

The leaders also engaged in in-depth discussions regarding major international and regional issues of mutual interest. Other notable figures, including Cai Qi and Wang Yi, were present at the meeting.
