On October 18, the American publication The Hill reported on a recent Gallup poll revealing some concerning sentiments among the American public. The survey indicated that over half of Americans believe their quality of life has declined compared to four years ago, with more than 60% of respondents feeling that the U.S. economy is deteriorating.
Conducted between September 16 and 28 with a sample size of 1,023 Americans, the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. The findings indicate that 52% of respondents feel their current living conditions are worse than they were four years ago, while only 39% believe their situation has improved. Gallup’s monthly Economic Confidence Index ranges from -100 to +100, and it currently stands at -26. In this context, 39% of participants reported that their financial situation was better four years ago, with 46% categorizing their current economic state as “poor” and 29% as “average.” Additionally, 62% of those surveyed expressed that they believe the economy is on a downward trend, outweighing the 32% who feel it is improving.
