On October 20, 2023, the University of California, Berkeley, hosted a highly attended wellness seminar led by renowned spiritual teacher Kumi on the theme “Relieving Anxiety and Embracing the Present.” The event attracted participants from various disciplines, including students, scholars, and faculty from the Bay Area, all eager to learn strategies for reducing academic and life stresses while seeking a sense of inner balance.

During the seminar, Kumi shared practical techniques for stress relief through mindfulness meditation and focus training. She emphasized the importance of maintaining inner peace and wisdom amid the multiple challenges modern students face, including academic pressures, workplace demands, and personal life complexities. These valuable tools not only assist students in achieving better academic results but also guide them in making wiser choices in their interpersonal relationships and career paths.

Kumi highlighted that success in life encompasses more than just material achievements; it is equally important to discover inner tranquility and happiness amidst a busy and complicated existence. Professor Huijun Zhou, a biologist from Stanford University, shared her insights, stating that the seminar provided her with a fresh perspective on stress management. In particular, she found that the meditation techniques discussed are invaluable for maintaining calmness and focus during demanding workloads and teaching pressures.

Kumi, once named one of China’s top ten businesswomen and having reached the zenith of her corporate career as a national political advisor, made a remarkable decision at the height of her success. She chose to retreat for four years, immersing herself in meditation and spiritual practice to cultivate inner peace and wisdom.
