Perfect Jared Goff makes NFL history in Lions’ victory over Seattle

Jared Goff had a record-setting night on Monday as he led the Detroit Lions to a 42-29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to complete all 18 of his pass attempts in a game.

After the game, Goff shared his thoughts: “It’s great when the ball doesn’t hit the ground. I was trying to remember if I had an incompletion, but I couldn’t quite tell. I knew I had a chance to make history.”

Not only did Goff achieve a perfect completion rate, but he also caught a touchdown pass from Amon-Ra St. Brown, marking a personal milestone for him. This made them the eighth pair in NFL history to both throw and catch a touchdown in the same game. The duo executed a clever trick play in the third quarter, with St. Brown throwing a seven-yard pass to Goff, who later threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to St. Brown in the fourth quarter.

Goff finished the night with 292 passing yards, highlighted by a standout play where Jameson Williams sprinted 70 yards for a touchdown after a catch. The Seahawks, now standing at 3-1, faced defensive struggles due to injuries and couldn’t keep up with the Lions’ scoring power.

Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald faced significant challenges in crucial fourth-down situations. In the early fourth quarter, a pass interference call against Tyler Lockett thwarted a potential first down. Later, with just over two minutes left on the clock, Geno Smith was unable to complete a pass on a fourth-and-goal attempt from the three-yard line, marking his fourth consecutive incompletion.

On the other side of the ball, Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs had a standout performance, scoring two touchdowns and rushing for 78 yards. David Montgomery kicked off the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run, capping off a meticulous 10-play, 93-yard drive.

For the Seahawks, Smith racked up 395 passing yards on 38 completions but was hampered by a critical interception in the end zone that ultimately cost his team. His star receiver, DK Metcalf, made seven catches for 104 yards but also had an early fumble that proved costly.

In another game, the Tennessee Titans secured their first win of the season with a 31-12 defeat of the Miami Dolphins. Mason Rudolph, stepping in for the injured Will Levis, led seven scoring drives, completing 9 of 17 passes for 85 yards. Nick Folk made significant contributions with field goals from 53, 52, 47, 51, and 29 yards.

Tony Pollard added a four-yard touchdown run, while Tyjae Spears scored on a direct snap. For the Dolphins, quarterback Tyler Huntley, who recently joined the team, managed to find the end zone but struggled to keep the offense moving as they continue to adjust without Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins, now at 1-3, have yet to lead in any games this season, with their only win coming in the opening match on a last-second field goal.
