In a recent update from CCTV News, various regions in China are accelerating their efforts in autumn harvest and sowing activities, laying a solid foundation for a bountiful grain harvest.
The Northeast region is particularly noteworthy, producing over one-third of the country’s autumn grain output. Currently, more than 65% of the autumn grain harvest has been completed there. Farmers are focusing on high-yield varieties; in Huachuan, Heilongjiang, 29 new soybean varieties have been introduced, achieving an average yield of over 260 kilograms per mu—a more than 20% increase compared to traditional varieties. This year, Heilongjiang is promoting 135 key varieties province-wide, aiming for full coverage of quality seeds for major crops.
In Liaoning, corn is experiencing a significant harvest due to the widespread adoption of “integrated water and fertilizer management coupled with dense planting” techniques, which have enhanced yields. In Zhangwu County, for example, farmers planted 6 to 7 corn seeds per meter, doubling the planting density from 3,000 to 6,000 plants per mu.
Moving further south, the Huang-Huai-Hai region has surpassed 80% of its autumn grain harvest, with localities speeding up collection efforts. In Donghai County, Jiangsu, favorable weather has prompted the mobilization of over 5,000 farming machines to ensure timely harvesting of nearly one million mu of rice. Meanwhile, Anhui Province reports having completed over 80% of its autumn harvest, with procurement processes underway. In Tianchang City, grain stations are undergoing digital upgrades to enhance storage technology, reserving nearly 200,000 tons of grain storage capacity to ensure efficient procurement.
In the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, late rice harvesting is ongoing. Agricultural departments in cities like Nanchang and Wuhan are continuously improving technical service systems and promoting drying services to ensure that late rice is efficiently stored.
Simultaneously, autumn sowing efforts are progressing steadily. In Chongqing, sowing and seedling cultivation for over 4 million mu of winter rapeseed has begun. In Qianjiang District, simplified cultivation methods employing drones for aerial sowing have been introduced to improve germination rates. In Shaanxi Province, the area devoted to autumn-sown wheat has exceeded 11.1 million mu, accounting for nearly 80% of the planned area. Weinan is fully implementing wide-row sowing technology and quality varieties to boost yields. In Henan, more than 30% of the wheat has been sown, amounting to over 27 million mu. In Anyang’s Huaxian, efforts to promote smart agricultural machinery have intensified, with unmanned precision planters equipped with BeiDou navigation systems completing sowing, fertilization, and consolidation in one pass, contributing to improved quality and efficiency in autumn sowing.
