-Nostalgic Hunan Rhythm- Hunan Provincial Photography Art Exhibition Launched to Showcase the Wonderful -Hunan Opera-

On September 29, the sixth annual “Nostalgia and Elegance of Hunan” Photography Art Exhibition kicked off at the Hunan Provincial Cultural Center, showcasing an impressive collection of 110 photographs that beautifully capture the essence of Hunan’s traditional opera and the diverse lives of its performers.

Since its launch in 2018, the “Nostalgia and Elegance of Hunan” exhibition has highlighted a variety of themes, from traditional Hunan villages to vibrant festivals and skilled craftsmanship. It has established itself as a premier platform for the innovative transformation and development of Hunan’s cultural heritage, garnering significant attention from the photography and arts communities.

This year’s theme is “Hunan Opera.” Following a call for submissions that began on April 25, the exhibition received an overwhelming 4,200 entries. A panel of expert judges meticulously selected 110 exceptional pieces for display. The photographs explore the themes of heritage and evolution within Hunan opera, telling vivid stories of various performance troupes and the rich, multi-layered lives of the actors involved. The exhibition effectively highlights the cultural richness and humanistic appeal of Hunan’s diverse theatrical styles.

Hunan is home to an impressive variety of local opera forms, including Xiang opera, Qi opera, Chenhe opera, Xiangkun, and Changsha flower-drum opera. Each style employs singing, recitation, acting, and symbolism to weave captivating narratives and portray dynamic characters. The regional accents, costumes, makeup, and props all contribute to the distinctive charm of Hunan opera performances. Organizers hope that this exhibition will inspire a deeper appreciation and passion for Hunan opera, encouraging the art’s growth and sustainability.

Organized by the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, in partnership with the Hunan Provincial Cultural Center and the Hunan Provincial Art Photography Association, the exhibition will be open to the public free of charge until October 7.
