From October 15 to 18, a delegation from Laos’s education department visited Liuzhou City in Guangxi to strengthen educational cooperation and exchanges.
During the visit, Phongthavy Douchaleun, the Acting Director of Student Affairs at the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, emphasized the importance of cultivating high-skilled and high-tech talents across various fields in Laos. He expressed hope that Lao students would take their studies seriously and apply the knowledge and skills they acquire in China to contribute positively to Laos’s high-quality and efficient development, thereby enhancing the increasingly close relationship between Laos and China.
Accompanying the delegation were nearly 50 Lao students who will soon enroll as freshmen at Liuzhou City Vocational College. The students shared their excitement about starting their overseas education. “It’s fascinating to take a high-speed train to study abroad. I hope to gain knowledge in China that will help promote trade and exchanges between Laos and China in the future,” said student Tien Zhi Xian on October 16.
Lao student Mei Lin expressed her amazement at China’s rapid economic development and cutting-edge technology, which inspired her to come to China to study Chinese and acquire skills. She hopes her education will help strengthen the friendship between Laos and China.
Liuzhou City Vocational College has a long history of friendship with Laos and is committed to promoting the internationalization of vocational education. Wei Haijin, the Secretary of the CPC Committee at the college, noted that in 2016, the institution established a cooperative relationship with the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports. In 2021, they collaborated with Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Co., the Vocational and Technical College of Champasak Province, and Laos Phida Automobile Co., Ltd. to create the “China-Laos Cross-Border Education Project.” By 2024, this project became one of six “Luban Workshops” established in ASEAN countries, aimed at training automobile professionals in Laos.
Currently, the Luban Workshop, named after the legendary Chinese craftsman, has established a presence in 19 countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe, serving as a national emblem of China’s efforts to promote vocational education internationally.
