Caitlin Clark, the sensational star of the WNBA, concluded her rookie season with impressive performances that drew comparisons to Golden State Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry, especially for her sharpshooting skills. Off the court, Clark is set to showcase her athleticism in a different arena next month, as she participates in the LPGA’s Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican, where she will compete in a professional-amateur pairing event, swapping basketball for golf.
It’s well-known that Curry is an avid golfer, and after Clark’s early postseason exit, she was asked what she planned to do during her downtime. She responded with a simple, “Maybe play some golf.” She enthusiastically added that she would continue golfing until the Indiana weather turns too cold, stating, “I will become a professional golfer.”
What started as a lighthearted comment is now becoming a reality. Clark will be heading to the Pelican Golf Club in Florida next month to test her skills in the professional-amateur pairing event at the Annika tournament.
“I love golf, so having the opportunity to participate in a tournament with a legend like Annika Sorenstam is incredibly exciting,” Clark expressed. As Sorenstam is the face of the Annika tournament, Clark is becoming a prominent figure in this crossover event. She also looks forward to observing the talents of LPGA stars, as well as the opportunity to tee off with Sorenstam in the professional-amateur pairing.
Having made waves during her NCAA career, Clark transitioned seamlessly into the WNBA, averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and an impressive 8.4 assists per game in her rookie season, the highest in the league. She not only earned the Rookie of the Year title but also ranked fourth in MVP voting. Moreover, she led the Indiana Fever back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, though they faced a first-round exit against the Connecticut Sun.
