According to a report from the Hainan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs on October 26, all 34,479 fishing vessels in Hainan have entered port to seek shelter in preparation for Typhoon Tanymei, the 20th typhoon of the year.
Currently, Hainan has a total of 34,479 fishing vessels, including 16,011 registered fishing boats and 18,468 other fishing-related vessels. As of 10 PM on October 25, all fishing vessels in the province have complied with the mandated timeline for returning to port. Additionally, eight fishing boats from other provinces have opted to take shelter in Hainan’s ports.
To ensure the safety of fishermen, Hainan has organized a relocation effort, successfully moving 52,483 people to safer areas. Out of these, 52,383 individuals from fishing boats have been brought ashore, while 100 people associated with sea farming facilities, such as fish rafts, have also been relocated.
According to the Hainan Meteorological Station’s forecast issued at 11 AM on October 26, Typhoon Tanymei, currently classified as a strong tropical storm, could potentially reach typhoon strength. It is expected to start circulating over the waters near southern Hainan Island and the Xisha Islands beginning on the night of October 27, after which its intensity is predicted to gradually diminish.
