On October 21, Xinhua News Agency reported from Jakarta that Han Zheng, Vice President of China and special representative of President Xi Jinping, attended the inauguration ceremony of Indonesia’s newly elected President Prabowo on October 20, following a visit to Indonesia from October 19 to 21. During this visit, he also met with outgoing President Joko Widodo and new Vice President Gibran.
In his meeting with President Prabowo, Han conveyed President Xi Jinping’s heartfelt congratulations and best wishes. He noted that Prabowo’s immediate visit to China following his election reflects a profound friendship towards China and a strong commitment to enhancing Indonesia-China relations. Han highlighted that President Xi had engaged in discussions with President Prabowo, reaching significant consensus on further consolidating and deepening bilateral cooperation. He emphasized that Prabowo’s inaugural speech, which addressed key issues such as food sovereignty and poverty alleviation, resonated with Xi’s people-centered development approach. China is committed to supporting President Prabowo and his new government in effectively governing the nation and believes that under his leadership, Indonesia will achieve greater progress in its development.
Han proposed three suggestions for the future development of China-Indonesia relations: first, to foster a high-level strategic mutual trust and maintain firm support on core interests and major concerns; second, to deepen all-around mutually beneficial cooperation for the greater benefit of the people; and third, to enhance international collaboration, steering global governance towards a more just and equitable direction.
President Prabowo expressed his heartfelt gratitude and warm regards to President Xi through Han and welcomed the Vice President as Xi’s special representative at his inauguration. He reiterated that China is a major power of significant influence and a strong partner for Indonesia. The new Indonesian government places a high priority on developing relations with China, intending to continue the friendly policies established by President Joko Widodo, with a desire to deepen mutual support and cooperative gains while strengthening coordination on international and regional issues.
During Han’s meeting with President Joko Widodo, he conveyed Xi’s warm regards and best wishes. Han noted that the past decade has seen tremendous high-level development in China-Indonesia relations, with both Xi and Joko driving the partnership towards a new era of shared destiny. China is committed to honoring the tradition of friendship and cooperation, deepening strategic collaboration, and successfully operating major projects like the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail, continuing to write a new chapter of unity and mutual benefit.
President Joko thanked Han for conveying his sincere greetings to Xi and expressed appreciation for Xi’s recent phone call. He noted that the fruitful achievements in China’s and Indonesia’s cooperation in recent years have made the high-speed rail a symbol of their friendship, expressing confidence that the bilateral relationship will reach new heights under the new Indonesian government.
In his meeting with Vice President Gibran, Han extended his congratulations on Gibran’s election. He remarked that China and Indonesia are good neighbors and partners whose cooperation is complementary and mutually beneficial, bringing tangible benefits to their people. China is willing to align its development strategies with the focus of the new Indonesian government, continuously deepening practical cooperation across various fields for mutual gains.
Gibran expressed that the new Indonesian government is eager to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, to continue consolidating the positive momentum in the relationship and to steadfastly advance bilateral cooperation for the betterment of both nations and their peoples.
