President Biden announced a new $425 million aid package for Ukraine during a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today. The White House stated that the discussion focused on strengthening security assistance efforts for Ukraine.
According to reports from Reuters and AFP, the White House emphasized that this new security aid package includes provisions for air defense capabilities, air-to-ground munitions, armored vehicles, and critical ammunition.
In a message posted on Telegram, Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Biden, the U.S. Congress, and the American people for the new military support. He mentioned that he shared a five-point “victory plan” during his discussions with President Biden and noted that he has submitted this plan to Congress today.
However, the White House did not clarify whether the decision had been made to allow Ukraine to launch Western-made long-range ballistic missiles deep into Russian territory, a step Biden has so far been reluctant to approve.
As Biden prepares for a whirlwind visit to Germany, this phone call with Zelenskyy comes as Ukraine remains a significant topic of discussion on his agenda during the trip.
