Beijing will distribute tens of millions of yuan in subsidies to benefit people watching movies during National Day

On September 30, 2023, the China Film Museum in Beijing hosted an exciting promotional event focused on films for the upcoming 2024 National Day holiday. The event unveiled the “‘Special Offers’ for National Day – 2024 Beijing National Day Subsidized Movie Viewing Activity,” which is set to distribute a remarkable 10 million yuan in movie vouchers.

Organized by the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Beijing Municipal Film Bureau, this event is part of the 12th Beijing Cultural Consumption Season. The theme for this year is “Chinese Film, Beijing Strength,” and it showcased four highly anticipated films that will premiere during the holiday: “The Volunteer Army: The War of Survival,” “Only Green,” “749 Bureau,” and “Box Office Good Man.”

Huo Zhijing, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Committee and Director of the Beijing Municipal Film Bureau, spoke about the city’s commitment to film production in recent years. He noted that the government has established cultural guiding funds that have supported over 200 films since 2019, including standout titles like “The Battle at Lake Changjin,” “Wolf Warrior 2,” “The Wandering Earth 2,” and “Nezha.”

The four films premiering this National Day, all backed by the cultural guiding fund, offer a variety of themes and impressive talent, creating an exciting lineup for the holiday season.

During the promotional event, representatives from the four films engaged in discussions about their projects, while film critics, media representatives, and avid movie-goers shared their viewing experiences. The newly launched “‘Special Offers’ for National Day – 2024 Beijing National Day Subsidized Movie Viewing Activity” promises to benefit approximately one million moviegoers as the Beijing Municipal Film Bureau distributes 10 million yuan in subsidies across more than 250 cinemas in the city.

Residents can take advantage of these limited-time discounts and ticket rebates via the Maoyan and Taopiaopiao apps, which offer a 30 yuan discount for tickets purchased for movie showings before 9:30 AM in Beijing theaters. Additionally, throughout the National Day period, all films at all time slots in Beijing theaters will have chances for discounts of 10 yuan or 15 yuan, making this an excellent opportunity for film lovers to enjoy the festivities.
