According to an AFP report on the 21st, citing sources from the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), it has been confirmed that Hamas will not elect a successor to the late leader Sinwar ahead of the planned leadership election in March next year. Instead, a five-member committee based in Doha, Qatar, will temporarily take on the leadership responsibilities of Hamas.
This committee was established in August following the assassination of Hamas leader Haniyeh, with the aim of enhancing the organization’s decision-making processes. It comprises five members, including Khalil Hayya, Zaher Jabareen, and Khaled Meshaal, who represent Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and the diaspora. The other two members are Muhammad Darwish, the chairman of Hamas’s consultative council, and the secretary of Hamas’s political bureau, whose identity remains confidential for security reasons.
