New York Yankees vs. California Dodgers, World Series forces two state governors to bet

As the World Series heats up with the Los Angeles Dodgers facing off against the New York Yankees, California Governor Gavin Newsom and New York Governor Kathy Hochul have joined in on some friendly competition.

On the morning of October 25th, ahead of the first game, Hochul extended a playful wager to Newsom against the picturesque backdrop of the Hudson River. She proposed that if the Yankees win the series, New York would have to adorn Newsom’s office with Yankees memorabilia for a day.

Shortly after, Newsom responded with a video, enthusiastically saying, “Let’s do this, Governor Hochul.” He expressed his respect for the Yankees’ storied legacy, but came in strong for his Dodgers, stating, “California knows how to win championships… When the Dodgers lift the trophy, I hope to see those Dodger blues proudly displayed in your office, not hidden away in a corner.”

It’s worth noting that for Newsom, a native San Franciscan and former mayor of the city, accepting this wager isn’t just a casual decision, as the Dodgers’ main rivals are the San Francisco Giants, a team he passionately supports. “As a proud San Franciscan, you won’t hear me say this often, but this year: Go Dodgers!” he proclaimed.
