On October 25, 2024, the Intermediate People’s Court in Sanming, Fujian Province, conducted a public hearing for the first trial of Yin Meigen, the former Deputy Secretary of the Jiangxi Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee and Vice Chairman, who is facing bribery charges.
According to the prosecution from the Sanming Municipal People’s Procuratorate, from 2003 to 2023, the defendant, Yin Meigen, took advantage of his various official roles—including serving as the Deputy Director of the Jiangxi Provincial Economic and Trade Commission, a member of the Standing Committee and Deputy Mayor of Jiujiang City, Mayor of Jiujiang, Secretary of the Jiujiang Municipal Committee, Vice Governor of Jiangxi Province, a Standing Committee member of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Nanchang Municipal Committee, Vice Governor, and Secretary of the Ganjing New District Party Work Committee—to facilitate assistance to related entities and individuals in matters such as project contracting, business operations, and promotions. He allegedly accepted bribes totaling over 207 million RMB. The procuratorial agency is seeking criminal accountability for Yin Meigen on charges of bribery.
During the hearing, the prosecution presented relevant evidence, and both the defendant and his defense counsel engaged in cross-examination. The court facilitated a comprehensive discussion between both parties, after which Yin Meigen made a final statement in which he expressed his remorse and admitted his guilt.
At the conclusion of the proceedings, the court announced a recess and indicated that a verdict would be delivered at a later date. Over thirty attendees, including representatives from the People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, as well as community members, were present to observe the trial.
