On the evening of October 20, a private helicopter tragically crashed into a radio tower in Houston, Texas, resulting in a fire that claimed the lives of all four individuals onboard, including a child. Eyewitness footage shared on social media platform X captured the moment the helicopter struck the tower, igniting a massive fireball and causing the tower’s structure to break apart, engulfing the area in flames.
Jay Marroquin, a local resident, shared a chilling clip from a security camera at MYSTUDIO HTX that documented the crash occurring at 7:51 PM in Houston’s Second Ward, East End. He tweeted, “#helicopter #helicoptercrash #houston #breaking.”
According to reports from the Daily Mail, Houston’s Mayor John Whitmire confirmed the incident took place near Englewood Street and North Ennis, shortly before 8 PM. The helicopter had taken off from Ellington Airport and was flying for pleasure when it unexpectedly collided with the radio tower, resulting in the tragic loss of life.
Sheriff Noe Diaz stated that the authorities believe the crash was accidental and requested assistance from nearby residents the following morning to help search for the wreckage and the victims’ remains. Fortunately, officials reported that there were no injuries or casualties on the ground as a result of the incident.
In an additional note, Diaz mentioned the presence of a butane storage tank near the crash site but expressed relief that it was not affected, preventing a potentially larger disaster. Surveillance footage from the area vividly illustrated the collision, showing the helicopter crash into the tower, which erupted in a bright flame, causing the structure to collapse in a fiery scene.
