In recent years, Changxing County in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, has taken the lead in building a community-oriented development initiative titled “Five Together for Shared Prosperity: A Happy Home.” This initiative revolves around the brand “Zhijiang Tongxin · Shiliu Hong,” which promotes mutual support among various ethnic groups through “shared learning, shared entrepreneurship, shared activities, shared governance, and shared care.” The aim is to solidify the foundational awareness of the Chinese national community and explore new pathways for interwoven development among ethnic communities.
New Chuan Village, nestled between the mountains in Meishan Town, is affectionately known as “Home of the Mountains” by locals and serves as a model village for the “Five Together for Shared Prosperity” initiative. It is home to 3,163 individuals from 15 ethnic groups, including Han, Miao, and Dong, living in harmony.
In recent years, the United Front Work Department of Changxing County has actively encouraged collaboration between villages and enterprises, uplifting the community through successful programs. More than 50 local businesses have partnered with residents to form three “shared prosperity companies,” creating an innovative model that integrates ethnic unity with diverse economic development. As a result, the average annual income of villagers exceeds 150,000 yuan. A local villager, Hu Hongfa, expressed his satisfaction, saying, “Our lives are getting better and better, all thanks to the supportive policies encouraging village-enterprise cooperation.”
To further amplify the “first to prosper helping the rest” model, leading enterprise Tianneng Group has created over 6,000 job opportunities in New Chuan Village and surrounding areas, benefiting individuals from various ethnic backgrounds. The company has also invested in midwestern provinces, partnering with local impoverished villages to provide stable employment for over ten thousand individuals from 32 different ethnic groups.
“We want every ‘pomegranate seed’ to stay close together, contributing to the development of New Chuan Village,” said Zhang Tianren, chairman of Tianneng Group and Party Secretary of New Chuan Village. To actively promote the “Zhijiang Tongxin · Shiliu Hong” brand, the local government invested 6.1 million yuan to establish the “New Chuan Shiliu Hong · Happy Home,” raising nearly 35 million yuan for poverty alleviation initiatives. They have also created a platform called the “Harmonious Governance Committee” to involve key members from new residents in governance, mediate disputes, and assist with issues like school enrollment for children of newcomers.
Beyond economic prosperity, there’s a strong focus on spiritual wealth. Leveraging New Chuan Village’s rich revolutionary history, Changxing County has developed cultural projects including the Red Ancient Path and “Jia” Cultural Street, building cultural warehouses and three major exhibition halls, while participating in events like the basketball invitational in Guizhou Province.
New Chuan Village is just one example of Changxing’s model for cooperative wealth-sharing. In other areas like Zhongshan Village in Xiaopu Town and Baoqiao Village in Huaxi Street, enterprises like Chaowei Group are driving shared prosperity workshops and production lines by involving 22 partner companies. In Jiapu Town’s Wucheng Village, Nuo Li Group contributes 100,000 yuan annually to establish a grape assistance base, introducing new strains and providing technical training to help struggling farmers increase their yields and income.
“Focusing on solidifying the awareness of the Chinese national community, we are deeply merging our initiatives with Huzhou City’s United Front Work Department’s ‘1158+N’ action plan to continuously promote the ‘Five Together for Shared Prosperity: A Happy Home’ campaign,” a representative from the Changxing County United Front Work Department stated. “We aim to incorporate better, more suitable development models into rural areas, benefiting our ethnic brothers and sisters.”
