On October 15, during a press briefing, Major General Wu Qian, the Director of the Ministry of National Defense’s News Bureau and spokesperson, addressed recent military-related issues.
When a reporter inquired about the recent attacks by the Israel Defense Forces on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, Wu expressed China’s serious concern and strong condemnation of the Israeli military’s actions. He emphasized that the UN forces operate under a mandate from the UN Security Council to perform peacekeeping duties and that any attack on UN peacekeeping personnel is unacceptable. Wu called for a thorough investigation into the incident, holding those responsible accountable, and urged all parties involved to take concrete measures to prevent such occurrences in the future, ensuring the safety of UN personnel and assets.
Wu also confirmed that the Chinese peacekeeping troops stationed in Lebanon are currently safe. He reassured that China is closely monitoring the local security situation and will implement measures to further enhance their defense capabilities.
