Nestled just a block away from Carmel Beach, this unique gated property boasts a stunning ocean view and sits on an expansive, highly private lot. The property, historically significant as the former residence of Clint Eastwood during his tenure as the mayor of Carmel, has recently sold for $18.55 million. Located on a 11,400-square-foot parcel known as Las Ondas Estate, this Spanish Renaissance-style home has a rich history and was initially listed at $21 million back in August.
Tim Allen of Coldwell Banker Realty, who represented both the buyer and the seller in this transaction, noted that the property attracted multiple offers before the final sale. Even though it sold at a discount, the seller, retired investor Frederick O’Such, enjoyed a significant return on investment; he purchased the home from Eastwood in 1996 for approximately $2.25 million and subsequently invested about $2.5 million in renovations over the following two years. The identity of the buyer has not been disclosed.
In a statement, O’Such expressed his sentiments about the property: “My family has loved living and entertaining in this iconic home for nearly 30 years; now it’s time for the next owner to share and enjoy this historic residence with their friends and family.”
At 94 years old, Clint Eastwood, a San Francisco native, is celebrated for his roles in films like “Dirty Harry” and “Million Dollar Baby.” He resided in the estate on San Antonio and Ninth Avenues from 1981 to 1996, during which he also served as the mayor of Carmel from 1986 to 1988.
Originally built in 1924 with Carmel stone, Las Ondas Estate is merely a block from the ocean and situated within a gated community, offering easy walking access to the city center. The residence features cherry wood floors, vaulted ceilings, and direct beach access.
Allen highlighted the sentimental value of the property, stating, “Many long-time residents of the area have a deep emotional connection to this home; its warm and inviting indoor and outdoor spaces transport you back to a time that reflects the classic charm and beauty of Carmel.”
