Amazon made headlines last month by announcing a return to the five-day office workweek, a move that has sparked significant discussion among its workforce. During a company-wide meeting on October 17, AWS CEO Matt Garman delivered a clear message: employees who disagree with this new policy can choose to leave the company.
As reported by CNBC, Garman emphasized, “If someone is not comfortable in this environment and doesn’t want to do it, that’s okay. There are other companies out there. At Amazon, we want to foster a collaborative environment, and we believe that working together is crucial for innovation and our corporate culture.”
A company spokesperson elaborated that Amazon has observed a direct correlation between in-person work and enhanced teamwork and efficiency. The recent mandate requiring employees to work from the office five days a week marks a shift from the previous policy, which allowed for at least three days in the office. Employees must comply with this new regulation by January 2 of next year.
