Foshan, Guangdong holds first F3 Dragon Boat Super League finals

On October 2nd, Foshan hosted the first-ever F3 Dragon Boat Super League finals at Guipai Lake in Shunfeng Mountain Park, located in the Shunde District. This thrilling event brought together 24 teams competing fiercely for the championship, complemented by an energetic dragon parade that embodied the spirit and charm of Chinese dragon boating.

As the traditional eye-dotting ceremony wrapped up around 10 AM, the “fierce dragons” squared off at the starting line. With a powerful command, the dragon boat athletes synchronized their strokes, powering through the water and creating ripples across Guipai Lake. Concurrently, a relay race featuring the Nanhai and Shunde dragon boat teams captured the energy of enthusiastic spectators cheering from the shore.

The F3 Dragon Boat Super League kicked off its first round on September 14, introducing a format that included five district qualifiers and a corporate team category to identify the top competitors. The winning teams showcased their impressive skills during the finals, delivering an exhilarating display of speed and passion.

The finals included several categories, such as the men’s 12-person 200m and 500m straight races, men’s 22-person 200m and 500m straight races, the men’s 22-person 400m relay race, and the women’s 12-person 200m and 500m straight races.

Known as the “Hometown of Dragon Boating,” Foshan has earned recognition as the first “National City of Dragon Boat and Lion Dance Sports.” The local community’s deep passion for dragon boating makes it not just a cherished traditional sport but also a vital part of Foshan’s cultural heritage.

Foshan’s Vice Mayor, Wen Xi, highlighted that the F3 Dragon Boat Super League introduces a dynamic new model of dragon boat culture for the city. He compared it to Formula 1 racing, reflecting the spirited and resilient nature of the people of Guangdong. The name “Foshan” itself is synonymous with the determination and teamwork of its citizens.

During the National Day holiday, Foshan will also hold a series of themed events, showcasing its rich culinary offerings and cultural tourism attractions.
