In a recent conversation, city officials provided valuable insights into Upland’s ambitious development initiative, “Town on First,” designed to breathe new life into the city center. With a history that stretches back nearly 120 years, Upland is keen on encouraging residential growth to attract more homeowners.
“The Town on First project is strategically positioned at the intersection of A Street and 1st Avenue, offering 32 townhome units, five of which will be set aside for affordable housing,” shared a city planner. “Its location near the Metrolink station, restaurants, boutique shops, and lively event spaces will greatly enhance the community’s appeal.”
City Council member Rudy Zuniga expressed enthusiastic backing for the initiative, describing it as a fantastic addition to downtown. He highlighted the project’s potential to deliver essential housing while maintaining the city’s unique charm. “I can’t wait to see this project come to life,” he said.
Mayor Bill Velto painted an optimistic picture for the future of downtown, stating, “This is just the start of our transformation. By 2025, we expect to unveil a new city square, and we’re also considering multi-level parking structures to meet the increasing demands of residents and visitors.”
City Manager Michael Blay emphasized the project’s critical role in recent infrastructure upgrades. “This development represents a significant move toward enhancing our city center’s functionality,” he explained. “With recent improvements to parks and accessibility features, we are working to create a more inviting and navigable environment for both residents and tourists.”
The residences at Town on First will feature two- and three-bedroom floor plans, ranging from 1,151 to 1,604 square feet. Each unit will include direct access to a two-car garage, ensuring convenience and security for residents. Sales are projected to commence in the spring of 2025, with a model home slated to open for tours in early summer. Interested buyers can sign up for a waiting list to receive pre-sale information and invitations for previews of the model home.
